100 Short Poems

Our choices led us there.
Vigilantes with zip ties in body armor
Conspiracy crazies with ad hoc weapons.
People cocooned in anger and grievance.
We chose to believe the lies spun for us.
Remorseless
There is a brutal beauty in the sleek tiger
atop the still steaming carcass that feeds it.
But something only foul and irredeemable
in the politician slandering chair-bound prey.
These pols have no shame, but they should.
Discernment
is seeing clearly, at last,
that life is as checkered
as local mail delivery
in an election year
during a global pandemic.
The Big Man
lives in a grand place
guarded by men with guns,
but who would want to hurt this man
who allows his people to bask - from afar
in the nimbus of his magnificence?
